Sources of omega-3 : fish or supplements?

If you want to get the maximum health benefits of omega-3 fatty acids, you should eat fish rather than taking supplements, the researchers suggest.

Some fish are able to provide intake of omega-3 fatty acids include herring, puffer fish, sardines, and salmon. If the fish are able to control mice blood pressure in laboratory, omega-3 supplements did not give similar benefits.

In addition, omega-3 turned out to eliminate an essential component of DHA are found in fish. Researchers also reported in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

"Oily fish not only contain omega-3, but also DHA. While supplementation with omega-3 DHA actually had a relieving properties of its natural resources," said Michael Bauer of the Jena University Hospital, Germany.

Omega-3 itself is a kind of essential fatty acids needed to support health yet the body can not produce itself.

Previously it was a similar study in the British Medical Journal last year that said the health benefits of omega-3 found in fish more than supplements.
